Allen Gray is the President of Jalen Publishing and Matrix Publishing. Each year, his arrangements are performed by thousands of Middle School, High School, and University Bands. In addition to composing and arranging for bands, Allen has produced numerous recording sessions including music for television. For the past 12 years, Allen has also developed curriculum and workshop content experienced by over 40,000 performing arts students each year. As a Clinician and Guest Conductor, Allen has worked with over 600 Bands and Orchestras from 46 states, as well as Canada, Australia and Hong Kong. Allen received his bachelor degree in Music Education from Troy University and now resides in Orlando, Florida.
Alan Keown has been a percussion teacher and arranger in the Pacific Northwest for the past 29 years. He spent many of those years as a drumset and orchestral performer as well as marching percussion specialist at the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and various high school programs. Alan is a clinician for Yamaha Drums, Promark drumsticks, Remo drumheads, Sabian cymbals and the marching percussion specialist for Thurston high school. He is also the founder of the Alan Keown Marching Percussion Camp, currently held in Oregon and Virginia. Mr. Keown publishes marching band music with Matrix Publishing Company, concert percussion literature with Alfred Publishing and indoor drumline shows with Marching Show Concepts.
Carl Major is the Director of Bands at Foley High School., and has been teaching for 17 years in the public school system. While at Foley , he has led an extraordinary Foley Band program to a Grammy Award and numerous marching and concert band superior ratings and championships. His band has received proclamations from Local and State Representatives, and commendations from the President of the United States.
Chris Sharp is a professional composer, arranger and orchestrator living in Gainesville, FL. He has served the music field in many capacities, including 13 years as a trombonist for the Walt Disney World Co. and over 20 years as an arranger/orchestrator for the Disney parks worldwide. He currently has well over 100 published compositions and arrangements for concert band, jazz band, marching band and various chamber ensembles. An active music educator, Mr. Sharp has experience as a band director at the middle school, high school and college levels. He currently serves as the Director of Instrumental Music at Santa Fe College in Gainesville. A five-time ASCAP award winner, he has had pieces performed at the annual Midwest Clinic in Chicago in each of the last nine years. He has served as an adjudicator for The Florida Bandmasters’ Association, and Drum Corps International.
Dallas Burke has been the Director of Bands for Seminole County Middle/High School in Donalsonville, Georgia for nine years, having taught previously in Daleville, Alabama, Foley Alabama and Panama City, Florida. In addition to his duties writing for Jalen Publication’s Marching and Jazz divisions, he has served as the Concert Band editor since its inception in 2005.
David Henning is a native of Wisconsin and has a Bachelors of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Masters in Music from Texas Christian University, in Fort Worth, Texas. He is currently a Band Director for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District, a suburb of north Dallas. He previously taught at University of Iowa as the Director of the Hawkeye Marching Band and Associate Director of Bands, and at Texas Christian University as Director of the Horned Frog Marching Band and Interim Director of Bands . Bands under David Henning’s direction have achieved notable success. His marching bands were very entertaining, successful and competitive. His high school band programs have advanced to the Texas UIL State Marching Contest and won independent regional competitions. As a conductor he has performed at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the College Band Directors National Regional Conventions, and the American Bandmasters Association Convention and in other venues His own public schools concert band have won continuous Sweepstakes Awards and they regular advance to the State Finals in the Outstanding Performance Series of the A.T.S.S.B. He continues to write for major colleges and universities, along with top competitive high school band programs across the country while serving on the Jalen/Matrix Publishing staff.
Gary Wylie is a retired band director who taught for 37 years in the Texas Public Schools. He directed high school bands at Sequin, San Angelo Central, Austin Crockett and Round Rock High Schools. The Crockett band was a regular finals participant at the Texas State Marching Band Contest, finishing in the top five on numerous occasions. The Crockett Honors Concert Band received the Outstanding Wind Ensemble Award at the Texas State UIL Wind Ensemble Contest, and performed at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Convention in Chicago. . Jazz Ensembles from Seguin and San Angelo Central High Schools performed at the Texas Music Educator's State Conventions as invited performing ensembles. Mr. Wylie was an active band adjudicator throughout Texas and the Southwestern states.
Jair Klarfeld, an ASCAP composer and arranger, has been composing and arranging music for high school, university, and military marching bands across the country for over 20 years. His skills in creating unique and effective music arrangements for bands large and small, are based on his 29 years of experience as a successful high school band director in Oklahoma, Ohio, and Texas. His arrangements and original compositions have been performed by bands at the BOA Grand Nationals and Regional Competitions, State marching competitions across the country, nationally televised BCS Bowl games, regular collegiate football games, and nationally televised holiday parades.
Jim Mahaffey (ASCAP) is known world-over for his musical compositions and arrangements for concert , marching , and jazz bands. As Assistant Professor of Music and staff arranger at Troy State University in his home state of Alabama, Jim penned the only official publication of the Alabama State Song for band and chorus, and served as arranger and Music Director for the nationally televised Miss Georgia Pageant. More than 85 arrangements were published for Hal Leonard's "Studio Lab Band Series." His works have been performed at MENC, NBA, ABA, and WIB Conferences. Jim now resides in San Antonio, Texas, where he currently has two titles for concert band on the Texas Prescribed Music List. His new textbook "A Practical Approach to Band Arranging" has been adopted by several major universities and individuals world-wide.
Steven R. Barnett is Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Marshall University. He coordinates music education, conducts the Marshall University Wind Symphony and the "Marching Thunder” Marching Band, where he also serves as music arranger and drill designer. Mr. Barnett received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Mississippi and a Masters of Music Education degree from Mississippi College. He has previously held band directing positions in Mississippi at the University of Mississippi, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Madison, Forest, Oxford, Newton and Pearl High Schools, and taught music education in Mississippi for 24 years. Mr. Barnett has served as President of the Conference USA Band Directors Association. Mr. Barnett is also a member of the College Band Directors National Association and was elected President of the Copiah-Lincoln Education Association. Mr. Barnett is an active adjudicator and clinician throughout the southeast and mid-west and is currently a staff arranger for Jalen Publishing Company of Orlando, FL where he currently has 15 marching band arrangements published. |
